Why chanting?

The Science of Naad Yoga

The definition of Naad Yoga is a science based on experience of how sound vibrations affect the body, mind, and spirit through movement of the tongue, the mouth, and changes in the chemicals of the brain.  This ancient science views the placement of the tongue with proper vowels to secrete chemical liquids to different areas of the brain.  Did you know there are 84 meridian points we use in Naad Yoga?  The tongue, which is the strongest muscle in the body, becomes an instrument while chanting primal sounds to send messages to the hypothalamus area.  We teach three important elements to achieve the benefits of chanting.  First, we follow the specific rhythm designated to that chant.  The idea being that we resonate with the rhythm of our heartbeat and the patterns of sound we create open channels directly to the brain.  Second, we coordinate the length of breath with the exhale, which is how we create sound.  Hence, studying the breath work of Kundalini Yoga will provide technique to your chanting.  Last, we know the placement of the tongue and correct pronunciation.

Since breath plays an important role in the technique of chanting, developing a strong third chakra (navel point) in Kundalini Yoga class is necessary.  Keep in mind that using these primal affirmations informs your DNA spiritually.  It does not matter what language you speak, because all the languages come from these primal sounds.  Naad Yoga was created before religious times and the vowels and sounds used are universal.
